To login, visit the main home page https://www.historygroupsportal.org and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. You should see a ‘login’ menu item like that below. Click this.

You should now see a login username and password screen, like that below. Enter your username and password to login, then you should see the main dashboard.

The dashboard
You should now see a dashboard similar to that below. The menu, where you can add and update news and events is down the left hand side of the screen.

News items
News items, in the Hub, are listed as ‘Posts’, so select the ‘Posts’ menu item, as below:

You should then see a list of current news items similar to that below:

Add an item
Adding the item
To add a new item, click the ‘Add Post’ button at the top of the list (as shown below).

You should now see a large page where you can add a title (at the top of the screen) and then paragraphs of text. You can also add images, by clicking them on your computer and dragging them onto the page, dropping them where you want them to appear.
At any time, you can save this as a ‘draft’ post (i.e. visible to you, but not yet visible to other visitors to the Hub) by clicking the ‘save draft’ button at the top of the screen like this:

Adding a featured image
You can add what is called a ‘featured image’ to your news item. This is an image that will appear alongside the item on the main news page list. You can do this by clicking the ‘Set Featured image’ button at the top of the ‘settings’ area on the right hand side of the screen – note if you’ve been adding a number of images and paragraphs (known as ‘blocks) to a page, you might need to click the ‘post’ settings as shown below, to see the featured image button.

Now you can select an image or upload one following the instructions on screen.
Add a category
Before a news item can be shown on a the main York and District hub news page, it needs to be given a category of ‘York news’ (or other news hubs as they become available).
Further down the ‘settings’ area on the right hand side of the page there is a ‘Categories’ area. Click on it till the categories appear, then at the very least, make sure there is a tick in the ‘York news’ category. There may also be other categories corresponding to the groups/societies you’re adding the news item for, and you can also put a tick in those, to highlight that it’s your event. But it’s the York news that the important one. Without that, it won’t appear in the York news section.

Publishing
Finally, to publish the news item, i.e. make it available for visitors to see, you’ll need to click the ‘Publish’ button in the top right corner of the screen:

You may then see a ‘publish confirmation’ panel appear like that below. You can either click ‘publish’ to confirm and publish the item immediately, you can click ‘cancel’ if you don’t want to actually publish it yet, or you can choose a future date on which to publish it (i.e. you can add an item for automatic publishing at a future date/time. See below.

To choose a date/time to publish the item on, click where it says ‘Publish: Immediately’ so that a time and date appears, then go ahead and select when you want the item to appear on the hub. As you select one, you’ll see the ‘Publish: ‘ time appear. Once this is to your liking, you can go ahead and click the ‘Schedule’ confirmation button at the top of the screen.

Your news item should now be added. To see it, return to the posts list by clicking the Hub icon in the top left of the screen:
